The CRIPtic x Spread the Word free online writing retreat runs online from Thurs 29 July to Sun 1st Aug. Events are taking place during the day and evening. Expect a residential retreat programme, but our online writing retreat can be taken from home. We are providing a relaxed space with support, BSL interpreters and auto-captions. We have a supportive team, and are looking forward to welcoming our new cohort of d/Deaf and disabled writers.
The online writing retreat is for d/Deaf and disabled writers of poetry, fiction, and/or scriptwriting. We will work to stretch the writers, with workshops for everyone to attend, on each of those genres. There will be creative exercises, workshops, guest readings, industry insights, and a public sharing event. There, participants can showcase their work to a wider audience.
It is a supportive, encouraging space for the writers to grow and develop. We are keen to encourage applications from d/Deaf and disabled writers who might not usually apply for opportunities. This includes deaf and disabled writers from other marginalised backgrounds, those who didn’t think workshops were for them, and those who aren’t sure whether to apply. An online writing retreat is the perfect opportunity to try out a writers’ space.
How to apply
Places on the Retreat are by application by form only. We will also ask you to provide two samples of your work either in written, audio or video format. If you’re not quite ready for a retreat, why not try out our d/Deaf and disabled writers’ salon instead?
You can view the application form questions by downloading it in PDF format here.
Apply by completing our online Google form and uploading two samples of your work here
The deadline for applications is 10am, Monday 5 July. CRIPtic and the Spread the Word team will assess applications. We will let people know the outcome of their application by Friday 9 July.
The decisions made will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
