At CRIPtic, we made a lot of progress in 2023-24. This report talks about how we worked with lots of disabled people in lots of different ways. We worked with people new to the arts and people who have worked in the arts for a long time. We ran:
- Reach: helping four scriptwriters to write a draft of a play
- Launchpad: working with five performers to perform their show at HOME in Manchester
- Breakthrough: paying two experienced disabled creatives to make a piece of work
- Incubate: helping disabled people who run organisations
- Launchpad, Breakthrough and Incubate.
We also ran Community Workshops, which were run by disabled people. These were open to everyone.
Over the year, we have paid more than 90 disabled people through these programmes. We also helped them build their skills, become more confident, and create new work.
This year put on powerful and personal plays called The Crip Monologues and Self & Other. Everyone who helped put these plays on was disabled.
In addition to all of this, we also did research into creative captions, the challenges disabled people face in the arts, and how to make events more welcoming for everyone.
Overall, more than 25,000 people learned about our work. We paid 137 disabled people in total.
Next year, we will continue to support and celebrate disabled people. We will run more events, research projects, and development programmes. We will continue talking to and listening to other disabled people.
